In this performance, I want to express my rejection of sociopolitical violence and the continuous aggressions against the defenders of Human Rights and the environment in Latin America such as Colombia, Brazil, Honduras, Mexico, the Philippines and other countries, acts committed mostly by the mining and agro-industrial sectors. Assaults ranging from murders, sexual violence, physical injuries and threats remain all in total impunity.

In an act of solidarity, my silent body will make a symbolic connection with the disappeared victims. Steaming from the tradition of the wake, which is anchored on the presence of the body of the deceased, in this case my body, as a last farewell to the social leaders who kept silent with their death.

Thinking about the pain the COVID 19 pandemic has brought to our lives, there have been a series of forces that have led to nefarious results.

First, mother nature reminds us that we are defenseless against her powerful strength. Second, we need to acknowledge that, even though we knew very little about COVID 19, from the very beginning the United States government did next to nothing to respond efficiently to the virus and to mitigate its impact on our communities. Lastly, we must denounce the negligent actions of the Trump Administration, which were focused, among others, on blocking the response to the virus, promoting disinformation, undermining the opinions of experts, and withholding aid to states as ransom to leverage their political interests.

So many have died during the pandemic who did not need to die. As an act of solidarity, my silent body establishes a symbolic connection with all the victims of COVID 19. I draw from the tradition of the wake to give a last farewell to those who died alone after being infected.
